The magnificent west front contains one of the largest galleries of medieval sculpture in the world. In the nave your eye is drawn to the unique ‘scissor arches’. On the quarter hour, as the famous old clock strikes, pause and watch jousting knights go round in tournament. The western end of the quire forms the oldest part of the present cathedral. Well worn steps curve up to the impressive chapter house, completed in 1306. Wander the precincts and discover vicar’s close built to house the men of the choir and the oldest continuously inhabited street in Europe.
